My Feminist Moment of Enlightenment
by Takeallah R
I became sexually active at fifteen, and I was always very proactive in my general and sexual health. I researched and decided that the best birth control method for me was the Mirena, based on my habits and lifestyle. I went to my OBGYN, who refused to give me the Mirena, or any other form of birth control that wasn’t the pill. Why? Because “I was too young to know what was best for me” and because I hadn’t had any children yet. I knew right then that my body wasn’t my own and vowed to dedicate my life to ensuring that all women are in charge of their bodies.
